Nine Days of Worship the Significance of Navratri
Navratri is a period of nine days devoted to the worship and honoring of the goddess Durga. She has three different forms and for the first three days, she is worshipped as a girl child, a young woman and as a mature woman. The next three days one prays for prosperity and wealth both spiritual and materialistic. These they ask from the goddess Lakhshmi the goddess of prosperity and peace but still all this is impossible without knowledge therefore during the same period they also pray to the goddess Saraswati to invoke the blessing of wisdom and knowledge in their lives. This continues until the seventh day and on then a sacrifice is offered which bids the goddess Durga farewell. Now the ninth day is the day of celebration where nine girls who signify the nine forms of the goddess Durga are worshipped. These girls should not be adolescents. Their feet are washed as a sign of respect to the goddess and afterwards they are given new clothes. All this signify Navratri, nine days of knowledge, power and wealth.
